Sarah Medway – Photograph Print on Card – Wooden Frame – 105 cm x 84 cm
My passion for photography started through my father, a keen amateur photographer. Photography was also a large part of my graphic design degree at Ravensbourne College of Art. I am now a freelance graphic designer and it is alongside this that I also pursue my photography and fine art interests.
THE LIGHT, THE LAND, THE GREAT OUTDOORS
The key factor and at the heart of my work is the marriage of light on land. I enjoy capturing the moment when light transforms the landscape, revealing cloudscapes, atmosphere and textures. I like to explore the influence and effect of weather on landscape, both locally where I live in Edenbridge, Kent and when travelling.
I also have a passion for wildlife, particularly cats both big and small. I have seven Maine Coon cats which are frequent models, much to their disgust. I am fascinated by all felines and undertook a course studying their behaviour and psychology.
My work is held in private collections and I have exhibited in central London at The Mall Galleries, OXO Gallery and throughout the south east England.
In 2009 I won the Kent Wildlife Trust Photographer of the Year award and my work has also appeared on the front cover of Coast Magazine, in Surrey Life, Kent Life, TGO – The Great Outdoors. I have also written editorial for and am a regular commissioned photographer for BBC Countryfile magazine.
I have collaborated with many other varied and interesting clients including The Discovery Channel and I was commissioned by Leeds Castle to take pictures of the castle and grounds over the course of a year, capturing the seasons and weather – the project was entitled ‘One Year in 900’. This culminated in an exhibition shown in the castle and my work is now on many gifts and products in the castle shop.
I am one the founders of Eden Valley Artists (EVA) – a group that has grown to 30 contemporary artists that organise network gatherings, community art events, art and craft fairs and exhibitions.
I am also a member of Parhelion Group.
In January 2018 I joined the photography team at The Big Cat Sanctuary. It’s a huge honour to be a part of this remarkable centre of excellence, dedicated to conservation of the world’s endangered cats. I will be leading photography workshops and helping at events.
I live in the small rural town of Edenbridge, Kent with my sound designer husband Martin and the previously mentioned Maine Coon cats.
