Maya the Jaguar appeared in the BBC’s 2018 documentary ‘Big Cats About the House’. If you saw it, you were almost certainly charmed by her – we certainly were at The House Crowd.
But Maya can’t continue to live comfortably and grow happily in her current conditions. Despite the great efforts of everyone at the Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent, she’s rapidly outgrowing her surroundings. To have a happy, healthy upbringing, Maya needs a proper shelter that’s big enough to accommodate her current and future needs.
At The House Crowd, we’re partnering with the Big Cat Sanctuary to raise funds so that she can have just that.
The House Crowd and the Big Cat Sanctuary are joining forces to raise money for a new cat house for Maya and other jaguars. We aim to raise £250,000 in total, and we’re going to spend it like this:
• £100,000 to build the enclosure
• £50,000 to support the University of Costa Rica’s Jaguar Protection programme
• And the rest for landscaping and planting trees within the enclosure, constructing new roads and pathways, and general refurbishments to existing roads
There are fewer than 15,000 jaguars left in the wild – and raising money for Maya and her friends has never been more important.
By contributing to this appeal, you’re adding to a pool of resources that will be used to protect and study jaguars in their native environments in Central and South America. You’ll also aid the University of Costa Rica’s Jaguar Protection Programme, which will deepen our understanding of these magnificent creatures – and protect their future all around the world.
Conservation efforts are essential for protecting Maya, and protecting all big cats everywhere. To find out more, visit the Big Cat Sanctuary’s website today – and please give generously.
