Breakfast Chef Wanted - Part-Time, Permanent Position

As the BCS Breakfast Chef you will be helping run a busy kitchen and delivering consistently high-quality food.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Deliver exceptional quality breakfasts & and undertake necessary food preparation and any other duties required
• Ensure the production, preparation and presentation of food are of the highest quality to ensure the highest levels of guest satisfaction
• Ensure effective communication between staff by maintaining a secure and friendly working environment
• Jointly responsible for hygiene, safety and correct use of equipment and utensils

Job Requirements:
• Must have a full driving license and access to a vehicle as BCS is not accessible by public transport
• At least 1 years experience cooking in a similar role

Details:
• Part-time, permanent role (15-20 hours per week, 07.00 start, covering 7 days a week, plus overtime as required)
• General numbers are a maximum of 18 for breakfast (with food being pre-ordered) and 30 for lunch
• Flexibility in working hours is essential, as is the willingness to work weekends
• Starting salary £11.00-12.00 per hour depending on skills and experience (to be reviewed in April 2024 along with National Minimum Wage Increases)

Evening Host - Casual Contract

We are currently looking for customer-focused, committed individuals to join our Evening Service Team. Our people always pay great attention to detail and share the love of delivering the highest level of customer service at all times: We pride ourselves on delivering a balance of knowledgeable service with warm personable hospitality.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • To undertake hosting duties (for example, serving pre-ordered dinner selections, taking orders and serving drinks from the BCS bar)
  • Be a warm and friendly host, welcoming guests in a warm and genuine manner; be 100% customer focused, engaging with visitors in a friendly, helpful and professional way at all times
  • Deliver service with a WOW, from taking orders to delivering the finished product with a high level of customer service and a winning smile, making that special memory
  • Prepare all areas and equipment in order to be ready to deliver an exceptional service including glass and cutlery polishing

Working Conditions

  • Hours of work are based on rostered shifts, including bank holidays and weekends, generally to cover 17.00-22.00, 7 days a week.
  • £10.50 per hour
  • Own transport is essential due to the rural location of the Sanctuary

Housekeeper - Casual Hours Available

The Big Cat Sanctuary is looking for a fit and enthusiastic Housekeeper to join our friendly team and help take care of our eight luxury lodges, offices and communal areas.
If you have an eye for detail, are willing to learn and have strong work ethic, then this is the role for you.

Position Overview: To provide a 5* professional, efficient and effective housekeeping and cleaning service that enhances the appearance of the site and supports a healthy environment. Duties include:

Cleaning our 5* lodges, offices and communal areas (vacuuming, dusting and polishing, cleaning/polishing bathrooms and toilets, including shower cubicles, replacing and hanging all bathroom linen and toilet supplies)

Working Conditions
• We give statutory holiday entitlement
• £10.50 per hour
• We need someone who can work flexibly, 3-5 hours per day (worked over a 7-day rota), between the hours of 7am and 5pm.
• A full, clean driving license and access to your own vehicle is essential due to our rural location

Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteering at The Big Cat Sanctuary


The Big Cat Sanctuary’s staff are all dedicated and passionate about their work. However, there is a limit to what each individual can achieve in a day which is why the organisation is supported by a committed group of volunteers, who provide a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience.

Volunteers undertake a range of roles, including supporting the work of our gardening and maintenance teams, customer services, fundraising, delivering site tours and experiences, along with supporting our keeping team.

Due to the varied nature of the tasks, a flexible and adaptable attitude is essential. Ideally, you will be able to commit to a minimum of one day per fortnight.

Please note:

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old
  • Volunteering is not the same as a work experience placement (see Work Experience)
  • Your own transport is essential as The Big Cat Sanctuary is in a rural location and not accessible by public transport

Maintenance Volunteer

The Big Cat Sanctuary is looking for an enthusiastic Volunteer Maintenance Assistant, to join our friendly team and help take care of our wonderful indoor and outdoor spaces. If you have good general DIY skills, like working outdoors and would like to support the Big Cat Sanctuary in your spare time, this could be the role for you. General hours are 08.00-17.00 daily, although there is some flexibility.

Gardening Volunteer

Are you someone who thrives in the great outdoors not afraid of a bit of mud? If that’s a resounding “yes,” then listen up!

Here at The Big Cat Sanctuary, we’re on the lookout for someone who’s up for a bit of a challenge. We’re talking about some hearty lifting, wellies that’ll get a proper mud bath, and a bit of clay to keep things interesting.

Our gardens are in need of some tender loving care! Picture this: wheelbarrows that need a good nudge, digging that’ll make you feel like you’ve hit the gym, and weeding that’s all about good old-fashioned elbow grease.

But hey, if you’re the kind of person who laughs in the face of a rainstorm and is always ready to tackle whatever the day throws your way, then we want YOU on our gardening dream team! Come on over, get your hands properly dirty, and let’s watch these gardens bloom together!

Housekeeping  Volunteer

We are seeking a volunteer to assist our housekeeping team in providing a 5* professional, efficient and effective housekeeping and cleaning service that enhances the appearance of the site and supports a healthy environment. Principal Duties & Responsibilities include
cleaning our 5* lodges, offices and communal areas to a level that reflects the high standards BCS promotes. Hours would be 10-4pm.

Retail Volunteer

We are seeking customer focused individuals to become part of our retail team at The Big Cat Sanctuary. We are looking for someone to greet guests, assist with lodge guest show ins, assisting with the general running of the shop and everything that may entail. If you like keeping things neat and tidy, pay attention to detail and have fantastic people skills, this could be the role for you. We are looking for individuals to help us at 10:15 – 16:15, ideally one regular day of the week.
