Evening Host


We are currently looking for customer-focused, committed individuals to join our Evening Service Team. Our people always pay great attention to detail and share the love of delivering the highest level of customer service at all times: We pride ourselves on delivering a balance of knowledgeable service with warm personable hospitality.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • To undertake hosting duties (for example, serving pre-ordered dinner selections, taking orders and serving drinks from the BCS bar)
  • Be a warm and friendly host, welcoming guests in a warm and genuine manner; be 100% customer focused, engaging with visitors in a friendly, helpful and professional way at all times
  • Deliver service with a WOW, from taking orders to delivering the finished product with a high level of customer service and a winning smile, making that special memory
  • Prepare all areas and equipment in order to be ready to deliver an exceptional service including glass and cutlery polishing

Working Conditions

  • Hours of work are based on rostered shifts, including bank holidays and weekends, generally to cover 17.00-22.00, 7 days a week.
  • £10.50 per hour
  • Own transport is essential due to the rural location of the Sanctuary

Casual Contract

Housekeeper


The Big Cat Sanctuary is looking for a fit and enthusiastic Housekeeper to join our friendly team and help take care of our eight luxury lodges, offices and communal areas.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning our 5* lodges, offices and communal areas
  • Adhering to the BCS cleaning regime, including but not limited to: Checking all soft furnishings, ensuring they are clean and function correctly; vacuuming, dusting and polishing; Cleaning/polishing bathrooms and toilets, including shower cubicles; Replacing and hanging all bathroom linen and toilet supplies; Replacing all complimentary items and monitoring expiry dates
  • Ensure all outside areas (including windows) are kept clean and tidy
  • Laundry to be checked in and out for cleaning, processed correctly and properly stored to prevent soiling & damage

Working Conditions

  • £10.50 per hour
  • We need someone who can work flexibly, 3-5 hours per day (worked over a 7-day rota), between the hours of 7am and 5pm.
  • A full, clean driving license and access to your own vehicle is essential due to our rural location

Internships

6-month & 12-month placements

Carnivore Internships


We are currently recruiting for voluntary internships of 6-12 months with our keeping team. Although not open to the general public, there are experiences offered throughout the week, so flexibility is essential. The main role as an intern will be to assist the keeping team in their daily tasks, including attending to the daily husbandry requirements of the animal collection as well as delivering our selection of experiences, as directed by the Curator, HeadKeeper & Deputy Head Keeper (including Ranger for a Day, Overnight Lodge Tours and Big Cat Encounters).
All internships are offered on a voluntary basis and are therefore unpaid, although free on-site accommodation can be provided. The placement hours are 08.00-17.00, 5 days a week. Please note, the Big Cat Sanctuary is not accessible by public transport.

Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteering at The Big Cat Sanctuary


The Big Cat Sanctuary’s staff are all dedicated and passionate about their work. However, there is a limit to what each individual can achieve in a day which is why the organisation is supported by a committed group of volunteers, who provide a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience.

Volunteers undertake a range of roles, including supporting the work of our gardening and maintenance teams, customer services, fundraising, delivering site tours and experiences, along with supporting our keeping team.

Due to the varied nature of the tasks, a flexible and adaptable attitude is essential. Ideally, you will be able to commit to a minimum of one day per fortnight.

Please note:

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years old
  • Volunteering is not the same as a work experience placement (see Work Experience)
  • Your own transport is essential as The Big Cat Sanctuary is in a rural location and not accessible by public transport

Housekeeping  Volunteer

We are seeking a volunteer to assist our housekeeping team in providing a 5* professional, efficient and effective housekeeping and cleaning service that enhances the appearance of the site and supports a healthy environment. Principal Duties & Responsibilities include
cleaning our 5* lodges, offices and communal areas to a level that reflects the high standards BCS promotes. Hours would be 10-4pm.

A full, clean driving license and access to your own vehicle is essential due to our rural location

Retail Volunteer

We are seeking customer focused individuals to become part of our retail team at The Big Cat Sanctuary. We are looking for someone to greet guests, assist with lodge guest show ins, assisting with the general running of the shop and everything that may entail. If you like keeping things neat and tidy, pay attention to detail and have fantastic people skills, this could be the role for you. We are looking for individuals to help us at 10:15 – 16:15, ideally one regular day of the week.

The Big Cat Sanctuary is dedicated to encouraging research that contributes to the body of scientific knowledge about big cats.
