Position Overview
BCS delivers a number of public and private events throughout the year, including Open Days, Members Days and Conservation Talks, as well as private events such as team builds, corporate days, family celebrations and offsite fundraisers. The Events Coordinator’s role is key to delivering and developing these events to a high standard; helping raise awareness of BCS, its work and of ‘big cat’ conservation in the process.
The role holder will be expected to attend these events to represent BCS and help build strong, reciprocal relationships with our guests, sponsors and supporters, encouraging repeat business where possible.

We are currently looking for customer-focused, committed individuals to join our Guest Services Team. With excellent hospitality, communication and organisational skills, you will be passionate about people and always aim to exceed expectations.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities include:
- To undertake hosting duties (for example, serving pre-ordered dinner selections, taking orders and serving drinks from the BCS bar)
- Be a warm and friendly host, genuinely welcoming guests; be 100% customer-focused, engaging with visitors in a friendly, helpful and professional way at all times
- Deliver service with a WOW, from taking orders to delivering the finished product
- Prepare all areas and equipment to be ready to deliver an exceptional service including glass and cutlery polishing
- Keep all areas clean, organised and tidy before, during and after service, cleaning front-of-house and back-of-house areas where necessary
- Acting as receptionist to visitors when required, including meeting, greeting and attending to the needs of guests, ensuring a superb customer service experience

The Big Cat Sanctuary’s staff are all dedicated and passionate about their work. However, there is a limit to what each individual can achieve in a day which is why the organisation is supported by a committed group of volunteers, who provide a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience.
Volunteers undertake a range of roles, including supporting the work of our gardening and maintenance teams, customer services, fundraising, delivering site tours and experiences, along with supporting our keeping team.
Due to the varied nature of the tasks, a flexible and adaptable attitude is essential. Ideally, you will be able to commit to a minimum of one day per fortnight.
Please note:
- Volunteers must be at least 18 years old
- Volunteering is not the same as a work experience placement (see Work Experience)
- Your own transport is essential as The Big Cat Sanctuary is in a rural location and not accessible by public transport

Maintenance Volunteer
The Big Cat Sanctuary is looking for an enthusiastic Volunteer Maintenance Assistant, to join our friendly team and help take care of our wonderful indoor and outdoor spaces. If you have good general DIY skills, like working outdoors and would like to support the Big Cat Sanctuary in your spare time, this could be the role for you. General hours are 08.00-17.00 daily, although there is some flexibility.

Housekeeping Volunteer
We are seeking a volunteer to assist our housekeeping team in providing a professional, efficient and effective housekeeping service that enhances the appearance of the site and supports a healthy environment. Principal Duties include
cleaning our lodges, offices and communal areas to a level that reflects the high standards BCS promotes. Hours are 10-4pm any day of the week.

Retail Volunteer
We are seeking customer-focused individuals to become part of our retail team at The Big Cat Sanctuary. We are looking for people to greet guests and assist with the general running of the shop and everything that may entail. If you like keeping things neat and tidy, pay attention to detail and have fantastic people skills, this could be the role for you. We are looking for individuals to help us at 10:15 – 16:15, ideally one regular day of the week.
