Julie Coles Marketing & Fundraising Volunteer

Julie Coles – Marketing & Fundraising volunteer

Name:  Julie Coles

Department:  Marketing & Fundraising team

Volunteering start date:   16th May 2018

What do you do in your day-to-day life?

After nearly 35 years working as a PA and in HR, I currently spend my time, somehow keeping incredibly busy, at home/at our allotment/with family/walking our dog.

What made you apply to volunteer at The Big Cat Sanctuary?

I like the idea of giving a little something back to our planet and its other non-human inhabitants.

What expertise do you bring to the sanctuary?

Happy to help with anything but I’m based in the Marketing/Membership Office.

Which resident Big Cat Sanctuary cat is your favourite cat and why?

Such a hard question as they are all beautiful! But if pushed, I would have to say Willow and the ‘boys’ (Tiny and Kafara).  Willow is just such a sweetie and always comes to say hello when you stop by her enclosure.  The ‘boys’ are just magnificent; so laid back and they are just so above even acknowledging onlookers!

What do you enjoy most about your time at The Big Cat Sanctuary?

Everything!  The staff are as great as the cats and the site is a lovely place too.

What do you enjoy most about being a volunteer?

Giving something that contributes to helping both the cats at The Big Cat Sanctuary and animals in the wild.

Tell us your most memorable experience at The Big Cat Sanctuary.

There are a few – hand-feeding a lion, cheetah, jaguar and experiencing a cheetah training session were all very special.

Tell us something we wouldn’t otherwise know about you.

What is your favourite animal and why?

Well, I’d have to say dogs on account of our black Labrador Daisy being one of the kindest, purest souls I’ve come across, but really I love all mammals.

What would be your advice to someone who was thinking about volunteering their time?

You won’t regret it!
