HEADCORN, KENT – 8th January 2026: The Big Cat Sanctuary is proud to announce the forthcoming release of Lion Heart, the debut book by Managing Director and wildlife expert Cam Whitnall. This inspiring memoir chronicles the high-stakes, ten-month mission to rescue five lions from war-torn Ukraine; an extraordinary feat of bravery and determination that captured the world’s imagination.

A Rescue Mission Like No Other

In 2024, as conflict raged, Cam Whitnall spearheaded the ‘Big Cats in Crisis’ campaign, a daring operation to rescue five lions. Navigating the complexities of a war zone and international logistics, Cam led a global appeal that raised over £500,000 to build the state-of-the-art Lion Rescue Centre in Kent.

Lion Heart provides a gripping, firsthand account of this journey. From the moment Cam first encountered the lions, many of whom had spent their lives in small concrete enclosures, to the emotional moment they stepped onto grass for the first time at their forever home in March 2025. The book is a testament to what can be achieved when passion meets purpose.

The Man Behind the Mission

While the rescue is the heart of the book, Lion Heart also explores Cam’s remarkable rise within the world of conservation. And his journey is anything but ordinary.

Growing up on the grounds of Hertfordshire Zoo, in a bedroom overlooking the tiger enclosure, he spent his childhood immersed in the daily realities of caring for lions, tigers, and countless other species. Most remarkably, Cam and his brothers hand-reared a lion cub named Zara inside their family home. Under the guidance of his grandparents and parents, Cam and his brothers developed an unshakeable sense of responsibility to protect the animals in their care and the wild places they came from.

At an age when many are just starting their careers, Cam became the Managing Director of one of the world’s leading feline conservation centres, The Big Cat Sanctuary, and masterminded Big Cats in Crisis; all before he turned 30! A familiar face to millions as a star of the CBBC’s hit show One, Zoo, Three, in which Cam appears with his brothers Tyler and Aaron, he has utilised his platform to bridge the gap between traditional conservation and digital influence, amassing over two million followers across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.

An Inspiring Call to Action

Lion Heart is more than just a rescue story; it is an uplifting tale about leadership, resilience, and the power of individual action. It serves as a call to arms for a new generation of conservationists, proving that no challenge is too great when it comes to protecting those who cannot protect themselves.

Cam Whitnall, said “Rescuing Rori, Amani, Lira, Vanda, and Yuna was the greatest challenge of my life, but seeing them thrive today at The Big Cat Sanctuary makes every hurdle worth it. Lion Heart is my way of sharing that journey, the highs, the lows, and the incredible people who made the ‘impossible’ possible. I hope this story inspires others to believe that they, too, can make a difference in the world, no matter the odds.”

An extraordinary story of hope and heroism, Lion Heart is scheduled for release later this year. Pre-order now at ebury.lnk.to/LionHeart
