We wanted to share an important update about two of our much-loved residents, Mo and Bolt.
On the 10th March, the cheetah brothers will be leaving The Big Cat Sanctuary to move to Africa Alive Zoological Reserve in Suffolk on breeding loan, as part of the International Breeding Programme. This breeding loan help ensure a healthy and genetically diverse population of cheetahs in human care, supporting the long-term conservation of this vulnerable species.
Mo and Bolt were born on 1 August 2018 at Longleat Safari Park and arrived at The Big Cat Sanctuary in December 2023. As brothers, they have always shared a close bond and quickly settled into life here, becoming firm favourites with our team and visitors alike.
Mo is the more reserved of the two brothers and often prefers to observe his surroundings from a distance.
With a calm and watchful nature, he sometimes shows a little cheeky attitude towards the keepers from the other side of the enclosure.
Bolt, on the other hand, has a more playful and energetic side.
True to his name, he can often be seen racing around the habitat or interacting with enrichment, bringing plenty of character to the cheetah enclosure.
We will miss the boys but this move is an important step in the global effort to protect cheetahs. We are incredibly proud that they will play a role in helping to secure the future of their species.
Thank you for your continued support, which makes our conservation work possible.
Warm regards,
The Big Cat Sanctuary Team
