The Big Cat Sanctuary is thrilled to unveil the names of their newest snow leopard cubs, who have captured the hearts of our supporters. After an exciting competition where the public cast their votes for their favourite names, we are pleased to announce that the female cub will be known as “Zaya,” and the male cub will be called “Attan.”
Zaya, which means ‘thriving’ or ‘flourishing’ in Tibetan, is the more confident of the two cubs. Known for her playful and spirited nature, Zaya’s boundless energy and curiosity have made her a favourite among our keepers. She particularly enjoys playing with the boomer balls and jumping on her mother Laila, whenever she has the opportunity.
On the other hand, Attan. which means, ‘soul’ in Tibetan, is the more reserved snow leopard cub. He appears to be drawing inspiration from his sister and is starting to come out of his shell. Attan is growing in confidence by the day and his development is a testament to the strong bond between the two siblings, as they learn from each other and grow together.
This competition was a great success which has helped raise over £6,600 which will be going towards the daily care of the Snow leopard family as well as the Sanctuary’s end-of-year conservation donations. Snow leopards are listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), making the successful breeding and nurturing of these cubs even more significant for the global efforts to protect this majestic species.
If you adopt Zaya & Attan, you will have the chance to visit an exclusive Adopters Afternoon on Sunday 22nd October. The cubs would have taken their first steps outside a few weeks before, so this will be an amazing opportunity to be able to see them for the very first time! This event will only be available to book for those who become an adopter of the cub and they will be able to add on guests too. This will be a limited ticketed event so spaces may go fast!
Order numbers may be high for the Adoption pack, so there might be a slight delay in processing your order, but this will be sent out as soon as possible.
