The Sanctuary Appoints Cameron Whitnall as Managing Director

Cam Whitnall becomes Managing Director

The Big Cat Sanctuary is pleased to announce the appointment of Cameron Whitnall as its new Managing Director. In this role, Cam will steer the Sanctuary’s strategic direction and oversee key ongoing projects. He will manage all aspects of its operations, driving growth, fostering innovation, and ensuring continued success. With his deep connection to the Sanctuary and unwavering commitment to wildlife conservation, Cam is ideally placed to lead the organisation into its next chapter.

This appointment continues the sanctuary’s strong family tradition, with leadership passing down through the generations. Cam joined The Big Cat Sanctuary in April 2024 as Project Lead, where he spearheaded impactful initiatives, including two major rescue campaigns. Notably, the “Big Cats in Crisis” campaign rescued five African lions from Ukraine and funded their new home, The Lion Rescue Centre, set to open in March 2025.

Over the years, he has built a diverse career in marketing, project management, and conservation within the wildlife and zoo industry. Cam is also a familiar face on TV, starring in the CBBC series One Zoo Three alongside his brothers Tyler and Aaron. Additionally, he is a Wildlife Photographer for Nikon and a social media influencer with over two million followers.

As Managing Director, Cam will lead the sanctuary’s growth, focusing on welfare, breeding, conservation, rescue and education while reimagining its commercial and operation offerings to stay competitive.

“I’m excited and honored to take on the role of Managing Director,” Cam said. “It’s a privilege to continue my Grandad, Peter Sampson’s legacy. The Big Cat Sanctuary will remain a hub for conservation, rescue, and education, and with the support of the team, I’m confident we can help the sanctuary reach its full potential.”

The Big Cat Sanctuary remains committed to being a trusted voice in global wild cat rescue and conservation. The Sanctuary cares for over 15 species of big and small cats, employs 60 staff members, and operates year-round, closing only on Christmas Day.
