Learn about the big cats, where they are found and what adaptations help them to live there. Compare the differences in big cat paws, tails, fur, and much more, investigating how each adaptation helps them to survive in habitats worldwide. Using replica skulls, claws and teeth as well as fun videos we can show students how each cat is specially adapted to their environment.

We will introduce students to the IUCN red list of threatened species, and see which cats are at risk of extinction. Investigate the major threats to global big cat populations and learn why so many are endangered. See what is happening worldwide to help secure a future for big cats and how we can do our bit to help at home! Seized HMRC items are available to show students the reality of the illegal wildlife trade and videos used to demonstrate conservation techniques used in the field.

Overview
Find out how we keep the residents of The Big Cat Sanctuary stimulated both mentally and physically using a range of environmental enrichment types. Throughout the session analyse enrichment types and how they benefit different big cat species. Using videos of the cats here at The Big Cat Sanctuary we will test your understanding of different enrichment categories.

Overview
Explore the big cat family tree and understand the relations between our big cat species. Students will take a close look into colour mutations in big cats– predicting the colour of our jaguar breeding pairs young! To finish we will discuss how captive breeding programmes work and The Big Cat Sanctuary’s breeding success to date- highlighting why these breeding programmes are vital in the conservation of endangered species.
