Our beautiful male snow leopard Attan will be embarking on a brand-new adventure as he moves to his new home at Nordens Ark, Sweden. He is set to leave the sanctuary on Monday 28th April, and while we will miss him dearly, we know this move is an exciting new chapter for Attan.
Attan will be joining Nordens Ark’s resident female as part of the Endangered Species Breeding Programme, which plays a vital role in the conservation of these magnificent big cats. It is estimated to be around 2700 – 3300 mature adults remaining in the wild. This carefully managed programme helps to ensure the survival of snow leopards for future generations, and we are incredibly proud that Attan will be contributing to such an important cause.
Attan was born at our sanctuary on 1st July 2023, alongside his sister, Zaya. He was the fourth male snow leopard born at The Big Cat Sanctuary to proud parents Laila and Yarko. Since birth, Attan and his sister captured the hearts of our staff, volunteers, and visitors with their playful personality and stunning beauty. Watching him grow and develop has been an absolute joy.
In December 2024, Zaya and Attan both moved to a different habitat at The Big Cat Sanctuary to help prepare them for moving away in the future. We wanted to make sure both Zaya and Attan experience independence away from their parents before moving on. Attan’s sister, Zaya, recently moved to Marwell Wildlife to join the breeding programme, and now it is Attan’s turn to play his vital role.
Although saying goodbye is never easy, we are comforted knowing that he will be in excellent hands at Nordens Ark, where he will have the chance to form a bond with his new partner and, hopefully, contribute to the future of his species.
We will, of course, keep you updated on Attan’s journey and in the meantime, please join us in wishing him the best of luck as he takes this next exciting step in his journey!
